About the Totem/Film Strip Series
The Totem/Film Strip series came from my desire to create paintings that would be ambiguous in meaning or interpretation. To achieve this, I purposely tried to select images that I had deep affinity for but were completely incongruous to each other. The goal was to make paintings were realistic but completely abstract in meaning thus thwarting the viewer’s ability to interpret the paintings. Ironically, this proved not to be successful as I would come to realize how adaptive some minds are to find meaning in chaos.
